The Race: A New York Story: Joe Perez: 9781625169525: Amazon.com: Books

Joe Perez describes his compelling life story, filled with hardships, danger, and triumph. Dedicated to future generations, his memoir includes the grit and grind of growing up in Brooklyn, New York. It also demonstrates that anything is possible if you don’t give up and that one person can make a difference. With real life adventures that readers will relate to, the autobiography is interwoven with historical accounts of what was happening in the world at the time. His story spans from Brooklyn to the Bronx, to the woods of upstate New York. It describes how Joe and his brother, Ralph, started their careers as EMS workers. Joe was the co-founder of the nationally acclaimed Bedford-Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corps, in which he and partner James Rocky Robinson faced overwhelming odds in the city’s war zone known as Do-Or-Die Bed-Stuy. Struggling against vicious drug dealers, the duo organized a rag-tag team of community residents trying to save lives. “U.S. News & World Report” calls the area the Kill Zone of the United States. The organization went from the outhouse to The White House, by saving lives today and building new tomorrows. This inspirational story shows how these two men started an organization in an abandoned building and showed thousands a way out of poverty. They took people off welfare, replacing the gold chains that gang members wore with stethoscopes. The corps transformed street people into EMS workers for the NYC Fire Department, and trained countless police officers, physician assistants, nurses, and doctors. Ambulance service response time went from 20 minutes to four minutes, setting a national standard and was named “a thousand points of light organization” by President Bush.

I am enthusiastic about making a career change from research to business and law so that I may better serve my community. I am interested in staying abreast of the accomplishments and challenges faced by like minded individuals with the same vision I have for Latinos in this country.

Steven Humble Mangual - I developed the Trauma Trooper Youth Program in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn “Do or Die” we took kids away from grip of gangs and made them Paramedic, Doctors and Nurse and even Cops. Back in the days Bed-Stuy was like Dodge City a shooting or stubbing on the average ever 45 mins. US New and World Report depicts the area as the Beirut lebanon of the United States. The Program was so successful that the Brooklyn DA office adopted the program. Pick-up my book - Biography

Adeola is an Epe native from Lagos State who enjoys singing Fuji Hip-Hop to the top of the stratosphere and writing songs on the guitar, saxophone, talking drum, piano, and whatever weird musical instruments he finds in the attic or gutter; he comes from a family of six with him been the Fourth child. He is actively recording and playing shows.

His initials being Adeola Hammed Giwa, a Fuji Hip-Hop artiste, songwriter, comedian, and MC. Adeola performs under the name XD Baba Onile, Adeola got his feet wet as an artiste while he was 13 years old at Obalende in Lagos where he met Sheliroy, Obadice and Moneyflow. He met a group called SS King and recorded some songs in the audio booth of the Gold Nation studio named “Kosere ni Moscow and Owo N’be,” some of the tracks recorded there, became XD Baba Onile’s first release, a 2011 single which awarded his group “SS King” numerous shows within Obalende and Lagos Island. Most especially at The Indigenous Black Festival, Lagos hosted at the Freedom Park, Lagos Island, He and his group were among the handful of fast rising artistes that performed at the festival and it opned doors of favours to him. he eventually left the group in the year 2015 and moved to Ikorodu releasing a handful of successive 4 singles, with “Ijo Shina” gaining the attention of several DJs in Obalende, Lagos Island and Ikorodu environments.

I’m a Puerto Rican writer who has loved stories all her life, as has my family, almost all of us are writers of some kind. I prefer to write in the fantasy and superhero genres and I’m working on both a novel and script with Latino characters in the lead since we are so vastly underrepresented in those.

I am an artist, and am a talented storyteller (so I’ve been told) . I have some scripts I am writing that have different takes on Latino characters and the struggles and contributions hidden in the storylines of these seemingly outrageous scenarios. I have a very talented and comedic family, I raised alone and am glad to find this organization to be inspired, and to help inspire community.
